Château Figeac is the emblematic First Grand Cru Classé Cru on the Right Bank in the Bordeaux region and it ranks as one of the greatest wines in the world. With a racy and distinguished style, Figeac embodies the quintessence of the expression of the great calcareous terroirs of Saint-Émilion and the Pomerol plateau.

In a vintage that required precision, responsiveness and commitment at all times, the Château-Figeac 2017 triumphs over rank and distinction, and it undoubtedly asserts itself as one of the greatest wines of its appellation.

As a vintage of the highest quality, the Château-Figeac 2017 rewards the tremendous efforts put in by the estate team led by the talented Technical Director Romain Jean Pierre. Unprecedented measures were taken to bring out the very best of this “winemaker” vintage. The estate team was fully committed to realizing the 2017 vintage. This commitment started at the end of April when the team sent up a low-flying helicopter at dawn to save the buds from the frost. Their commitment also included identifying the different types of vine stocks and daily monitoring of the vines up until the harvest.

The Château-Figeac 2017 is dazzling with its blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (47%), Merlot (43%) and Cabernet Franc (10%).

Pure and fresh, the aromatic bouquet rises up from the glass as it reveals black fruit, currant and cherry scents while the delicate floral and spicy notes add complexity and refinement to its personality. In a sumptuous attack, the palate is enveloped with the elegance and finesse of silky tannins that give the mouthfeel tactile sensations. The fleshiness of the fruit is perfectly balanced with the tastiness of the acidity. The fruity length stretches harmoniously to a fresh finish. A magnificent Figeac from an exceptional vintage.

Production was down by half this year--only producing 55,000 bottles. Made from 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, the deep garnet-purple colored 2017 Figeac gives up expressive notes of black cherries, plum preserves, black raspberries and kirsch, giving way to hints of dried leaves, cinnamon toast and warm cassis plus a waft of lavender. Medium-bodied, the palate has wonderful vibrancy with a refreshing line cutting through the crunchy black fruits and a firm, finely grained frame, finishing long and spicy.
