Château La Fleur 2020

Smoky tar and cloves on the nose here, a little tight and chewy but clearly well made. The tannic frame is fully in play but softened by rich berry fruits and plenty of bitter chocolate shavings. A Dassault wine, with the house signature.

A rich and layered red that shows plenty of fruit and velvety tannins, with a citrusy and black olive undertone to the ripe, flavorful fruit. Full and intense. Give it two or three years to soften and refine. Drink after 2025 and onwards.

The 2020 La Fleur is muddled and lacks delineation on the nose. The palate is sweet and cloying with a bitter finish. Subpar in the context of the vintage. A second bottle is better and shows more freshness, but it still does not deserve superlatives.

Flowers, cherries and smoke show up easily on the nose and in the medium-bodied, soft-silky, sweet, polished palate. Drink from 2023-2036.

The 2020 Château Perron La Fleur comes from sandier soils and is 100% very old-vine Merlot. Ripe plums, darker cherries, iris, and violets all emerge from this beauty, and it’s medium-bodied, with good acidity and a great finish. It’s a floral, balanced, incredibly impressive Lalande de Pomerol that I’d be thrilled to drink anytime over the coming decade.

87% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc, 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep purple with an opaque core and a violet rim. Complex bouquet of alpine blueberry, Brazilian tobacco and licorice, with delicate violet notes in the background, elderberry jelly and blackcurrant drops. Plush on the palate with a creamy texture, lovely sweetness of extract, a tightly knit tannic frame and a muscular body. Focused finish with wild cherry and graphite, underpinned by delicate, firm notes from drought stress; still has room to improve!

Kunz barrel sample 2021: silky, broad bouquet, strawberry jam, cherries, chocolate, wood. Firm, medium-bodied, strongly extracted palate with fine sandy tannins, good aromatics, bourgeois structure, bitter finish.

Enchanting, the nose invites you to delve further into these generous waves of stewed dark fruits. The bouquet is both very fresh and rich with cocoa butter. The attack is creamy, fleshy, then a certain firmness asserts itself on the palate—gourmet and mouthwatering—with fairly solid tannins and a finish as long as it is lively.

The smooth, rounded character of La Fleur 2020 argues for a pleasure wine to be enjoyed in its youth. The bouquet sets the tone with aromas of wild berries, chocolate, and licorice. A harmonious, elegant, and inviting wine.

A delicate bouquet, exuding aromas of polished dark fruit. The palate is straight and a little tight, built around a dominant acidic spine, framed by firm tannins. Crunchy and digestible.
