Deeply colored, with smoke, tobacco leaves, herbs, and cigar wrappers. The medium-bodied palate is soft, round, lifted, and elegant. The fruits deliver freshness and refinement, with marine influences, and a hint of espresso on the backend of the finish. If you can wait a few years, it will be even better. The wine blends 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, and 6% Petit Verdot. 13.5% ABV. Drink from 2028-2047. 92-94 Pts

Lovely dark plum, coffee bean spice, this is a hugely consistent château, fully knitted down tannic structure, but dark cassis and bilberry fruit underneath, and track record suggests that all of these elements will happily co-exist after ageing. 32 hl/ha. 35 % new oak. Harvest September 4 to 20. 3.64 pH.

Latour-Martillac’s bouquet opens with a serene, precise first impression, driven by a freshness that brings real energy. Delicate hints of orange zest mingle with aromas of cherries and red berries, followed by notes of sweet spices. The smooth, creamy attack signals a dense, harmonious wine. Its compact, velvety tannins shape a vigorous yet subtle profile, where power and temperament are perfectly in tune. Now it needs time for everything to settle into place, but the way the foundations are laid is truly delightful. A highly convincing wine!

Vinum

Blackberries, herbs, tobacco and a subtle smoky note on the nose, underpinned by licorice; on the palate, taut, focused and well-structured, it builds intensity while remaining elegant, with crisp fruit, high-quality tannins and excellent acidity; long, saline finish.

Description

Tasting Notes and Characteristics of Château Latour-Martillac 2025

Tasting

Appearance
Intense and deep violet, it reveals a superb concentration highlighted by delicate, sparkling reflections.

Nose
Elegant and highly expressive, it opens with complex aromas of crisp black fruits such as cherry and blackberry, harmoniously blended with notes of violet, vanilla and eucalyptus leaf.

Palate
The attack is supple, supported by velvety tannins of great finesse. The mid-palate reveals vibrant black fruit. The whole offers remarkable harmony and extraordinary freshness, extending into a long, slightly spicy finish, perfectly balanced despite the sun-drenched character of the vintage.

Food and wine pairings
This red wine pairs wonderfully with characterful meats such as a roast rib of beef, roast beef or game meats like duck. It also goes very well with aged hard cheeses or a dark chocolate dessert.

The elegance and freshness of a great Pessac-Léognan wine

The estate
Located south of Bordeaux, Château Latour-Martillac traces its origins back to the 12th century, but its modern history truly began with its acquisition in 1871 by the Kressmann family. This prestigious estate spans 54 hectares. Today, the property is brilliantly run by Tristan and Loïc Kressmann. The château stands out for its strong environmental commitment and its dual classification obtained in 1953, rewarding both its red and white wines, a true rarity in the region.

The vineyard
Located in the prestigious Pessac-Léognan appellation, the vineyard extends over 54 hectares, 45 of which are dedicated to red grape varieties. The vines, with an average age of 35 years, are planted on the Martillac plateau. This exceptional terroir consists of deep Pyrenean gravel mounds, providing poor and perfectly drained soils. Planting density ranges from 7,200 to 8,500 vines per hectare. The estate is certified High Environmental Value (HVE3), reflecting practices that respect biodiversity.

The vintage
The 2025 vintage stands out for its early ripening and great success. The mild, wet winter replenished the soil's water reserves. The dry spring, warmer than average, encouraged rapid vine development while limiting disease pressure. The summer was hot and dry, with significant temperature swings, concentrating the aromas in small berries. A few welcome rainfalls in late August ensured steady ripening through to the harvest, yielding small, homogeneous grapes in impeccable sanitary condition.

Vinification and ageing
Aged in oak barrels (35% new). Alcohol: 13.5% vol

Grape varieties
Cabernet Sauvignon (58%), Merlot (36%), Petit Verdot (6%).
