Tasting

Color

The color reveals a deep purple hue with subtle orange highlights, reflecting the wine’s evolution since bottling.

Nose

The nose opens with intense aromas of ripe black fruit, notably cherry and plum, accompanied by complex notes of truffle, chocolate and spice. With aeration, earthy and mineral nuances gradually emerge.

Palate

On the palate, the wine unfolds an imposing yet refined tannic structure, offering an elegant, balanced texture. Black fruit flavors blend harmoniously with notes of cocoa and spice, leading into a long, lingering finish.

Food and wine pairings

This Pomerol pairs beautifully with grilled or roasted red meats, feathered or furred game, as well as truffle and wild mushroom dishes. It also matches well with aged hard cheeses.

Serving and cellaring

Château Nénin 2005 is best served between 16 and 18°C. Decanting for one to two hours allows the wine to fully express its aromatic complexity. This vintage can be enjoyed through around 2030.

A great Pomerol, powerful and complex

The estate

Acquired in 1997 by the Delon family, Château Nénin covers 32 hectares in Pomerol, north of Bordeaux. The 8 hectares of the plateau’s finest clay-gravel soils are dedicated to the grand vin, while the rest contributes notably to Fugue de Nénin. Under the direction of Jean-Hubert Delon, the estate benefited from a complete restructuring upon acquisition, modernizing both the vineyard and the cellar. The grape variety mix, dominated by Merlot with an increasing proportion of Cabernet Franc, aims to produce a age-worthy great Pomerol that is powerful and elegant.

The vineyard

The Château Nénin vineyard enjoys a privileged location on the Pomerol plateau, renowned for its exceptional terroirs. The soils are composed mainly of clay and silica-rich gravel enriched with iron oxide, giving the wines their richness and distinctive minerality. The plots devoted to the grand vin occupy the best sites on the clay-gravel plateau, ensuring optimal grape concentration and an authentic expression of Pomerol’s terroir.

The vintage

The 2005 vintage proved exceptional in Bordeaux. Ideal weather conditions, marked by dry, sunny skies, allowed the grapes to reach perfect ripeness. This year offered optimal conditions for crafting powerful, complex wines with excellent aging potential.

Winemaking and aging

Château Nénin 2005 was vinified with the utmost care in temperature-controlled tanks, allowing for a well-managed extraction of tannins and aromas. The wine was aged in French oak barrels for around eighteen months, 30% of which were new oak, bringing structure and complexity while preserving the terroir’s natural fruit expression.
