Description
Château Nénin 2006 Characteristics and Tasting Notes
Tasting
Appearance
Displaying a vibrant ruby hue with purple highlights, the wine reveals a crystal-clear brilliance that reflects meticulous winemaking.
Nose
The bouquet opens on generous aromas of kirsch and red fruits, accompanied by notes of mocha and delicate floral touches. With aeration, nuances of cedar, undergrowth and dried herbs enrich the aromatic palette, while hints of dark chocolate and violet add a further dimension.
Palate
The attack is fresh and pure, revealing a muscular structure and a generous body. The palate expresses aromas of cherries and chocolate, carried by fine, supple tannins of remarkable quality. The silky, sensual texture is accompanied by mineral notes evoking pencil lead and graphite that tinge the black fruits. The long, persistent finish stands out for its freshness and graphite character.
Food and wine pairings
This Château Nénin 2006 pairs ideally with grilled or braised red meats, furred game such as venison or wild boar, as well as duck prepared with a fruit sauce. It also matches perfectly with herb-roasted lamb, dishes featuring noble mushrooms such as cèpes, or aged cheeses such as a mature Comté or Cantal.
Serving and cellaring
Château Nénin 2006 benefits from being decanted one to two hours before serving to fully reveal its aromatic bouquet. It is ideally enjoyed at a temperature of 16 to 18°C. This vintage can be appreciated until around 2031.
A structured and harmonious Pomerol from Château Nénin
The estate
Acquired in 1997 by the Delon family, Château Nénin extends over 32 hectares in Pomerol, north of Bordeaux. The 8 hectares of the finest clay-gravel terroirs on the plateau are dedicated to the grand vin, while the rest notably contributes to Fugue de Nénin. Under the direction of Jean-Hubert Delon, the estate has benefited from a complete restructuring since its acquisition, modernising both vineyard and cellars. The grape mix, dominated by Merlot with a growing presence of Cabernet Franc, aims to produce a great Pomerol for ageing, powerful and elegant.
The vineyard
The Château Nénin vineyard enjoys a privileged location within the Pomerol appellation. The parcels selected for the making of the grand vin lie on the noblest terroirs of the plateau, composed of gravel and clay enriched by a ferruginous subsoil known as crasse de fer. These soils offer optimal drainage while ensuring a steady water supply to the vines. The south-west exposure of the finest parcels, situated at an altitude of up to 33 metres, promotes ideal ripening of the grapes.
The vintage
The 2006 vintage benefited from favourable climatic conditions in Pomerol. A cool spring delayed the vegetative cycle, allowing gradual and balanced ripening. The summer proved pleasant with moderate temperatures and well-distributed rainfall. These conditions enabled the grapes to reach optimal maturity while preserving lovely freshness and invigorating acidity, essential characteristics of this structured vintage.
Winemaking and aging
The 2006 Château Nénin harvest was carried out by hand at full maturity. After complete destemming, vinification took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats with fermentation temperatures between 24 and 28°C. Maceration lasted between 12 and 20 days depending on the parcels. Ageing was carried out in French oak barrels for 18 months, with a moderate proportion of 20 to 30% new wood, allowing the expression of the fruit to be preserved while adding structure and complexity.
