The Freshness and Aromatic Expression of a Premier Grand Cru Classé from Saint-Émilion
The Estate
Founded in 1989 by Jean-Luc Thunevin and Murielle Andraud, Château Valandraud is a flagship player in the early garage wine movement. Located in Saint-Émilion, the estate began with a 0.6-hectare vineyard in the Fongaban valley. Today, it has held Premier Grand Cru Classé status since 2012. The founding couple, still at the helm of the estate, favors an artisanal approach with innovative practices that ensure wines of great aromatic concentration.
The Vineyard
The parcels of Château Valandraud are spread over 8.5 hectares on the limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion, offering a diversity of soils that contributes to the wine's complexity. The vineyard, approximately 18 years old, benefits from a unique microclimate and favorable exposure, allowing for optimal grape ripening.
The Vintage
The 2024 vintage was characterized by contrasting climatic conditions that required particular attention in vineyard management. A mild and very rainy winter was followed by an equally wet spring, resulting in significant downy mildew pressure. The alternation of rain and sunny days during summer delayed berry ripening.
Winemaking and Aging
Aging in 100% new foudres lasts between 18 and 22 months.
Blend
Merlot (85%), Cabernet Sauvignon (9%), and Cabernet Franc (6%)
