A Languedoc red wine with floral and mineral notes
The Producer
Founded in 2017 by Pierre Halley and Samuel Durand, Clos Constantin cultivates 15 hectares in Argelliers, in the heart of the Terrasses du Larzac in Languedoc. Pierre Halley, a terroir-driven winemaker, teams up with Samuel Durand, a former sommelier at Lavinia, to manage this estate, which has been certified organic since 2021. The estate owes its uniqueness to its cool and late-ripening terroir, which benefits from exceptional temperature variations in this south-eastern part of the AOC.
The Vineyard
Located in Argelliers (Arjiès in Occitan) at the extreme south-east of the Terrasses du Larzac appellation, the vineyard benefits from a unique terroir. The clay-limestone and quartz soils provide a cool climate that promotes a slow and balanced ripening of the grapes.
Winemaking and Aging
The manual harvest of Arjiès 2023 is followed by plot-by-plot vinification using exclusively indigenous yeasts. Maceration lasts 30 days, with one third of the tanks vinified as whole bunches. Aging takes place over 18 months in a combination of large wooden barrels and concrete eggs.
Grape Varieties
This blend consists of 70% Syrah, complemented by Grenache and Cinsault.
