Description

A full and fresh Saint-Emilion wine

The estate

The main defining characteristic of Clos Fourtet, a Premier Grand Cru Classe of Saint-Émilion, is that it is classified as a “clos.” In a constant search for excellence, Clos Fourtet and the Cuvelier family practice sustainable agriculture with a profound respect for nature.

The vineyard

A benchmark among the finest Saint-Émilion wines, Clos Fourtet reigns over a 20-hectare vineyard. The vines are 29 years old on average and are planted on clay-limestone soils, a typical feature of Saint-Emilion.

Vinification and ageing

The wine is aged in barrels for 15 months, with 60% in new barrels.

The blend

Merlot (90%)
Cabernet Sauvignon (8%)
Cabernet Franc (2%).

Château Clos Fourtet 2016: Characteristics and tasting tips

The tasting

Colour
The deep colour reveals a beautiful garnet hue, with ruby highlights.

Nose
The intense nose blends floral (violet), fruity notes (blackcurrant) and aromas of cigar box.

Palate
The dense and smooth palate seduces with its coated tannic structure and its beautiful minerality. The finish is very long with delicious hints of black fruit, peppermint and an incredible aromatic persistence.
