The Authentic Expression of a Great Burgundy Terroir by Domaine Cordier Père et Fils
The Estate
Officially founded in 1945, the Domaine Cordier Père et Fils is an essential landmark of the Mâconnais, in southern Burgundy. Now run by Christophe Cordier, the estate covers an area of 31.5 to 35 hectares. The vineyard stands out for its meticulous parcel-by-parcel approach, spread across more than 120 plots. Driven by a constant pursuit of quality, the estate distinguishes itself through environmentally responsible practices, incorporating organic and biodynamic methods to bring out the authentic expression of its terroirs.
The Vineyard
Located at the heart of the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation, the vineyard rests on a mosaic of clay-limestone soils dating back to the Jurassic period, rich in marine fossils, shale and sandy limestone. The vines, planted on south-facing slopes at altitudes between 200 and 400 metres, benefit from optimal sunlight exposure. The vines are cultivated with great precision, including the braiding of the vines and soil cultivation using animal traction, without the use of tractors, in order to preserve the vitality of the land. The harvest is carried out entirely by hand.
The Vintage
The year 2023 was marked by particularly warm temperatures. A mild, rainy spring encouraged rapid vine growth. Summer brought consistent warmth without extremes, along with regular rainfall. A significant heatwave at the end of summer, just before the harvest, allowed the grapes to reach optimal concentration while preserving excellent natural acidity, an essential characteristic of this vintage.
Winemaking and Aging
The Pouilly-Fuissé Village "Jean Gustave" 2023 is crafted in a modern gravity-fed winery. Fermentation takes place using indigenous yeasts in large wooden vats and foudres. The wine is then aged for an extended period on fine lees in fine-grained French oak barrels. To preserve its full aromatic complexity, the wine is bottled by gravity, without fining and with minimal filtration.
Grape Variety
100% Chardonnay.
