Founded in 1991, the goal of Domaine de la Garance was to create fine wines that would highlight the geological evolution of the superb terroirs in the South of France. The estate offers wines that boast a typical Mediterranean character and are perfectly suited to ageing. Thus, the reds are lively and full of character while showing a beautifully subtle expression. The whites wines are very expressive and charming as they are oxidative.
Situated in the Languedoc region, the vineyard, consisting of 8 hectares of vines, is rooted on the last foothill of the Cévennes mountain range, to the northeast of Pézenas. The impressive tapestry of soils provide ideal conditions for the development of red grape varieties such as Grenache, Syrah and Carignan, as well as white grape varieties such as Grenache Gris, Clairette and Chardonnay. The vines, which are 55 years old on average, are perfectly preserved as the Domaine de la Garance works its vineyard in an organic manner.
A Clara 2020 comes from a plot influenced by limestone marl, villafranchian soil and blue clay where 18-year-old Chardonnay vines thrive.
Vinification and ageing
Following manual harvesting and sorting in the vineyard, the grapes are taken to the cellar. The vinification is carried out in concrete and stainless steel vats with direct pressing without settling and with indigenous yeasts. The wine is aged for 6 months in concrete and stainless steel vats. The wine is neither fined nor filtered.
