Domaine du Cellier aux Moines : Puligny-Montrachet 1er cru "Les Pucelles" 2020

An alluring white signaled by aromas of lime blossoms and citronella, with a creamy texture sporting lemon oil, white peach, sweet corn, vanilla and clove flavors. Taut and concentrated, with a superlong finish that echoes the floral, citronella and oak spice elements. Best from 2025 through 2033. 130 cases made, 30 cases imported.

A rich Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru with the expansiveness and ripeness that we associate with the Grand Cru sites of this commune. Almost lush, but there's healthy acidity and the flinty minerality underlines this very nicely and together they make the finish almost austere. The first vintage made from organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

It shows as youthful, with the oak ageing still integrating. Behind that, the typical Pucelles character is clearly there, with a long, racy palate. So it will benefit from a little more time.

Fresh citrus zest and a stony brightness in Les Pucelles, fully living up to its pedigree with its sleek, chalky texture and a fine, vibrant length on the finish. Very high quality, though its ageing could still gain in subtlety.
