The pure, mineral expression of a Loire white wine
The estate
Officially founded in 1989, Domaine François Chidaine is a key reference in the Loire Valley in France. Located at the heart of Touraine, the estate now spans 50 hectares. A pioneer of sustainable viticulture, the estate has been farmed biodynamically since its earliest days. Currently run by François Chidaine, supported by his wife Manuela and their children Alice and Pierre, the estate is dedicated to producing authentic wines. Respect for plant life and the enhancement of terroir lie at the very heart of this renowned family estate's identity.
The vineyard
The vines flourish on the terroirs of Montlouis-sur-Loire, benefiting from a temperate climate at the confluence of the Loire and the Cher. The vineyard rests on a mosaic of soils composed of flinty clay, clay-limestone and a subsoil of white tuffeau. The plots, some of which are home to century-old vines, are cultivated without any chemical products. A regenerative approach is applied here, promoting biodiversity through permanent cover cropping and winter eco-grazing, while maintaining naturally low yields.
The vintage
The year 2022 was marked by climatic conditions that suggested a small harvest with high alcohol levels. Against all expectations, the vines produced a generous harvest, reaching just, perfectly balanced ripeness levels, with no excess whatsoever.
Winemaking and aging
The creation of this 2022 vintage relies on slow, extended fermentations, carried out with indigenous yeasts in demi-muids within cool tuffeau cellars. This gradual process can extend over several months. The wine is then aged on full lees, still in these same wooden vessels, for six to eight months, to encourage integration and the development of the wine's texture.
