Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the 2022 Vouvray "Le Mont" Demi-Sec from Domaine Huet
Tasting notes
Colour
This white wine from France reveals a pale yellow colour enhanced by delicate golden hues.
Nose
Complex and expressive, the aromatic bouquet reveals notes of ripe fruit such as pear, quince and white peach, mingled with hints of honey and white flowers. Subtle nuances of citrus, pineapple, mango and fresh fig harmonise with a stony minerality.
Palate
The attack is unctuous and generous, perfectly balanced by a bright acidity that brings tension and vivacity. The palate expresses a saline, chalky minerality, typical of its flint terroir, stretching towards a long finish of great elegance.
Food and wine pairing
Ideal as an aperitif, this wine pairs wonderfully with seafood, a salmon tartare with avocado and lime, or delicate fish in sauce. It also enhances Asian cuisine, such as a mild coconut vegetable curry, white meats in cream sauce, and fresh local goat cheeses.
Service and storage
To fully appreciate the "Le Mont" Demi-Sec 2022, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 10 and 12°C, after decanting for thirty to sixty minutes. Ready to enjoy now, this wine will reveal its full complexity with time and can be cellared until around 2042.
Other characteristics
This demi-sec wine presents a perfectly integrated sweetness with approximately 21 grams per litre of residual sugar, balanced by a natural freshness preserved through the absence of malolactic fermentation.
The mineral and elegant expression of a great Vouvray wine
The estate
Founded in 1928 by Victor Huet and his son Gaston, Domaine Huet is a leading reference in the Loire Valley. Located on the right bank of the river, the estate has established itself through its pioneering commitment to biodynamic viticulture and absolute respect for terroir. Now led by the Hwang family, with Sarah and Hugo Hwang at the helm, and supported by winemaker Benjamin Joliveau, the estate continues a philosophy of minimal intervention. It produces wines of exceptional longevity, reflecting the authenticity of its historic terroirs.
The vineyard
Located on the prestigious Première Côte of the Vouvray appellation, the Le Mont terroir spans approximately eight to nine hectares facing south. This distinctive vineyard rests on shallow, stony soils composed of green clay, flint and mica, overlying a bedrock of calcareous tuffeau. Cultivated biodynamically, the vines benefit from an ecosystem that fosters biodiversity, where wild tulips flourish, with no mechanical soil work in winter to encourage deep rooting.
The vintage
The year 2022 was marked by warm, dry weather. After a few episodes of spring frost before budbreak, the summer proved particularly sunny. Timely rains in mid-August helped relaunch the ripening of the berries. The harvest, carried out by hand in successive passes, began in late August and extended into October, yielding grapes of remarkable concentration and balance.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes destined for the "Le Mont" Demi-Sec 2022 are gently whole-bunch pressed using a pneumatic press. Fermentation begins naturally with indigenous yeasts, taking place in a mix of stainless steel tanks and old wooden demi-muids. To preserve the full vivacity of the grape variety, malolactic fermentation is deliberately blocked. The wine is then bottled in early spring following the harvest to capture its aromatic freshness.
Grape variety
Chenin Blanc (100%).
