The aromatic bouquet captivates with its complexity, blending notes of cooked berries with herbaceous touches of thyme and tobacco leaf. Subtle nuances of liquorice and oak further enrich this olfactory palette.

The power and structure of an Ermitage red wine by E. Guigal
The estate
Founded in 1946 by Étienne Guigal in the heart of the Rhône Valley, E. Guigal is a leading name in French winemaking. Originally a modest family estate located in Ampuis, the property expanded internationally under the leadership of Marcel Guigal. Today, the third generation, embodied by Philippe Guigal and his wife Eve, runs the estate. Renowned for its respect of terroir and its single-plot cuvées, the house vinifies a major share of the northern appellations while upholding an unwavering commitment to quality.
The vineyard
This wine comes from the famous Ermitage hill, a unique terroir benefiting from a very favourable southern exposure. The grapes are sourced from four distinct plots acquired by the estate: Bessards, Greffieux, L'Ermite and Murets. Aged between fifty and ninety years, these old vines are tended using environmentally friendly practices rooted in the principles of sustainable agriculture, allowing the full richness and complexity of this historic site to be expressed.
The vintage
The 2022 vintage was marked by extreme weather conditions, with intense heat and severe drought. However, the cool nights helped preserve a beautiful acidity, while timely rainfall ensured ideal ripening throughout the growing cycle. The old vines demonstrated strong resilience in the face of this sun-drenched climate.
Vinification and ageing
The making of this Ex Voto 2022 relies on meticulous expertise and precise mastery of the ageing process. The wine benefits from an extended maturation in new French oak barrels, crafted at the estate's own artisan cooperage. This approach allows the wood to integrate harmoniously with the wine's structure over time.
Grape variety
This wine is made exclusively from Syrah (100%).
