Description
A great Languedoc wine imbued with elegance and character
The estate
Nestled in the heart of the Languedoc, Domaine Gérard Bertrand reflects its founder’s commitment to championing the riches of Southern France’s terroir. With a history spanning several decades, this estate is renowned for its expertise in crafting wines that powerfully and elegantly express the nuances of the Languedoc’s finest vineyards.
The vineyard
A cuvée paying tribute to Gérard Bertrand’s father, La Forge is a Languedoc wine from plots located within the eponymous lieu-dit.
Comprising Carignan (80 years) and Syrah (20 years) vines, this terroir belongs to Domaine de Villemajou, the historical cradle of the Bertrand family, recognized as the first hierarchical cru of Corbières and situated within the Corbières-Boutenac appellation.
The name of this wine stems from the fact that this plot brings together the elements needed for a forge: wood for the fire and water to cool the metal.
Winemaking and aging
Hand harvesting. Aged for 10 to 12 months before bottling. An additional 12 months of aging is carried out before release.
Blend
La Forge 2002 by Gérard Bertrand is a blend of Carignan and Syrah.
