Mathilde, Michel Chapoutier's daughter, has taken over the running of this iconic house, which comprises over 350 hectares of vineyards in the most prestigious appellations of the northern and southern Rhône Valley region.
L'Ermite 2020 white wine by M. Chapoutier is an Ermitage wine made from a selection of old vines planted in a vineyard located at the top of the Hermitage slope, around the chapel in a hamlet called l'Ermite. This fine Rhône Valley terroir is unique due to its nutrient-poor granite soils.
Vinification and ageing
The grapes are harvested by hand when fully ripe and, after a light settling, are vinified exclusively in barrels. Following a long fermentation, the wine is aged on its lees for 10 to 12 months, with regular stirring of the lees.
The colour is straw yellow.
Revealing a beautiful minerality conferred by the soils, the nose blends vanilla and almond fragrances with dried fruit and lime blossom notes.
Ample and rich, the palate exudes gourmet aromas of white flesh fruits (peaches and apricots). The finish is persistent and complex.
