Colour
This red wine reveals a deep ruby hue, with subtle garnet and brick highlights at the rim of the glass.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with scents of stone fruit, dominated by red and black cherry. With aeration, spicy notes reminiscent of nutmeg blend with a minerality evoking flint.

Palate
Full-bodied and perfectly balanced, the palate offers lovely freshness without heaviness. Flavours of cherry and black fruit harmonize with spicy touches, supported by silky, refined tannins. The finish lingers on fruity and mineral nuances.

Food and Wine Pairing

This cuvée pairs wonderfully with grilled or roasted red meats, as well as with flavourful poultry dishes such as duck confit. It also enhances mushroom-based dishes, such as a morel risotto, or aged cheeses like Comté.

Service and Storage

For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve the "La Rochelle" 2022 at a temperature of 14°C. This wine can be enjoyed after a few years in the cellar and will continue to evolve favourably, drinking well until around 2042.

The Estate

Founded at the end of 2012 following the purchase of a historic estate, Maison le Nid is a family-run estate located in Romanèche-Thorins, at the heart of the Beaujolais region in France. Today, the estate is run by the Lardet family, made up of Paul, Danielle and their children Delphine, Jocelyn and Stéphane. The latter, with his background in gastronomy, brings a culinary vision to the wines. HVE3 certified, this estate favours sustainable viticulture and manual harvesting to express the full uniqueness of its terroirs.

The Vineyard

Coming from the Moulin-à-Vent appellation, the plot that gives rise to this wine is located at the top of the hill, near the famous historic windmill. South-facing, these sixty-year-old vines are trained in gobelet style. They thrive on shallow soils composed of pink granite, quartz, silica and manganese. The planting density reaches ten thousand vines per hectare, promoting excellent grape concentration.

The Vintage

The year began with some concerns about frost in late April, followed by episodes of hail in June. The summer season then proved particularly hot and dry, marked by heatwaves in mid-July. Fortunately, timely rainfall at the end of June and in mid-August allowed the vines to continue their growth cycle without stress, leading to early harvests from mid-August under ideal conditions.

Winemaking and Aging

The production of the "La Rochelle" 2022 respects regional traditions with semi-carbonic whole-bunch maceration. Fermentation, triggered by indigenous yeasts, takes place in concrete vats for ten to twelve days. The wine then benefits from careful aging of fifteen to sixteen months in one- to two-year-old oak barrels.
