Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the Moulin-à-Vent "Tradition" 2022 from Maison le Nid
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a deep ruby red hue.
Nose
The nose opens with aromas of fresh grapes, morello cherry and liquorice. It then reveals lovely complexity with notes of blackcurrant and blackberry, alongside floral touches of violet and subtle spicy nuances.
Palate
The palate is fresh, velvety and full-bodied, dominated by flavours of black fruits and stone fruits such as cherry and sloe. The whole is supported by supple tannins and a mineral backbone, leading to a persistent finish.
Food and wine pairing
This Moulin-à-Vent "Tradition" pairs wonderfully with roast duck, grilled meats, roast pork or a mushroom risotto. It also goes very well with charcuterie platters.
Service and storage
To fully appreciate this 2022 vintage, it is recommended to decant it before serving and to enjoy it at a temperature between 14 and 16°C. This wine can be enjoyed now, but it has the structure to age favourably in the cellar until around 2037.
The elegance and structure of a Moulin-à-Vent wine
The estate
Located in France, in Romanèche-Thorins in Beaujolais, Maison le Nid was officially established under this name in 2014, following the acquisition of the estate by Paul Lardet two years earlier. This vineyard, whose earliest traces date back to the beginning of the twentieth century, is now managed by Stéphane Lardet, who represents the new generation at the helm of the family business. Guided by values of authenticity and hedonism, the family favours sustainable farming practices to preserve its land and craft age-worthy wines renowned for their outstanding quality.
The vineyard
The vineyard spans a little over nine hectares within the Moulin-à-Vent appellation. The vines, spread across twelve distinct plots, benefit from an ideal altitude of between 200 and 300 metres. They thrive on manganese-rich soils composed of granite, pink granitic sand and sandstone. This unique terroir gives the grapes remarkable concentration. The harvest is carried out entirely by hand to select only the finest fruit.
The vintage
The year 2022 was marked by particularly hot and dry weather conditions. From May onwards, persistent heat and severe drought set in. July proved very sunny and consistent, providing ideal conditions for ripening. August, the second hottest ever recorded in the region since 2003, accelerated the growing cycle, leading to an early harvest starting from the end of August.
Winemaking and aging
The vinification of this cuvée begins with careful destemming, designed to preserve structure while enhancing fruity expression. Aging then takes place over ten months in old wooden foudres. This choice of used vessels allows for gentle oxygenation and subtle integration of aromas, without masking the identity of the terroir.
