Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of Rochegrès 2022 Maison le Nid
Tasting
Colour
This French red wine reveals a deep, intense ruby hue.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet captivates with floral notes reminiscent of rose, harmoniously blended with aromas of red and black fruits such as raspberry, blackcurrant and blueberry. Subtle touches of spice, vanilla and mint, accompanied by a lovely minerality, add further depth to the whole.
Palate
Generous and structured, the palate offers a fine power balanced by silky tannins. The tasting experience unfolds into a long, mineral finish with a delicate gamey character.
Food and wine pairing
This cuvée pairs perfectly with roasted or sauced meats and poultry, such as beef bourguignon or filet mignon. It also enhances game-based dishes, as well as medium-intensity cheeses like Beaufort or Saint-Marcellin.
Service and storage
Rochegrès 2022 can be enjoyed now for its fruit-driven character, or cellared until around 2027, or even beyond for those who favour more evolved profiles.
The authentic expression of a Moulin-à-Vent terroir by Maison le Nid
The estate
Located in the heart of Beaujolais, in the commune of Romanèche-Thorins, Maison le Nid is a family-run estate whose current identity was shaped when it was acquired in 2012 by the Lardet family. This roughly eight-hectare estate is guided by strong values combining family spirit, respect for the terroir and a quest for authenticity. Today, the estate is run by Stéphane Lardet, who took over management in July 2025. The estate stands out for its meticulous plot-by-plot approach, aimed at expressing the full uniqueness of its terroirs.
The vineyard
The vines flourish on the famous Rochegrès climat, within the Moulin-à-Vent appellation. This distinctive terroir is characterised by poor, shallow soils composed of pink granite sand and quartz. Facing south-east at an average altitude of 255 metres, the vineyard enjoys optimal sunshine exposure. The estate favours sustainable farming practices, encouraging deep root growth in the vines while preserving the biodiversity and health of this granitic ecosystem.
The vintage
The year began with a mild February, leading to an early growing cycle. Spring was then marked by record heat and a lack of rainfall, subjecting the vines to water stress. Despite hail events in June in neighbouring areas, summer rains allowed the vines to regain their balance. The harvest, carried out at the end of August, revealed berries of lovely freshness, yielding an elegant and harmonious profile.
Winemaking and aging
Rochegrès 2022 is crafted through whole-bunch vinification followed by destemming. The must then benefits from an extended maceration period, allowing for optimal extraction of aromatic and structural compounds. Finally, the wine undergoes careful aging in oak barrels for approximately 16 months, giving it a silky texture and added complexity while preserving the identity of its terroir.
