Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Riesling "Grand Cru Schlossberg" 2021 from Maison Trimbach
Tasting
Colour
With beautiful clarity, the wine reveals a pale lemon-yellow hue, enhanced by delicate green highlights.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with intense notes of yellow apple, pear and white peach, underscored by the vibrancy of lime and grapefruit. It then evolves towards more complex nuances of fresh herbs such as mint and nettle, sweet spices, as well as mineral touches reminiscent of flint and granite.
Palate
The palate stands out with a precise mineral backbone and a sleek texture. Herbaceous flavours dominate at first, accompanied by lovely tension. The finish, remarkably persistent, closes on citrus aromas with a subtle touch of bitterness.
Food and wine pairing
This white wine pairs perfectly with grilled white fish, such as sea bream with fennel, or with simply prepared shellfish. It also goes very well with vegetarian dishes such as roasted vegetables or a tomato and citrus salad.
Service and storage
The Riesling "Grand Cru Schlossberg" 2021 shows excellent aging potential and can be enjoyed until around 2038.
Other characteristics
This dry white wine has an alcohol content of 12.5%.
The mineral precision of an Alsatian white wine
The estate
Founded in 1626 by Jean Trimbach, Maison Trimbach is a historic figure in Alsatian winemaking. The estate now oversees 61 hectares of vineyards, entirely certified organic. Currently led by the thirteenth generation of the family, the estate is turning a new page in its history with Julien Trimbach, who is taking over technical management following the passing of Pierre Trimbach. Renowned worldwide for its structured dry white wines, the house was named brand of the year in 2025.
The vineyard
Located in Alsace, between the villages of Kaysersberg and Kientzheim, the Grand Cru Schlossberg sits on steep, south-facing slopes. The 1.6-hectare plot acquired by the estate spreads across terraces situated between 230 and 400 metres in altitude. The vines, around 52 years old, thrive on shallow, sandy soils, made up of a complex geological base of granite and gneiss, encouraging deep root growth.
The vintage
2021 was marked by major climatic challenges. Spring frosts first considerably reduced yields, followed by summer rains that led to significant disease pressure. However, a particularly dry autumn allowed the remaining berries to reach optimal ripeness, resulting in a concentrated and well-balanced harvest.
Winemaking and aging
True to the estate's philosophy, the making of the Riesling "Grand Cru Schlossberg" 2021 favours a pure expression of terroir. The winemaking avoids excessive extraction and pronounced use of oak, allowing the wine to naturally develop its structure before a delayed release several years later.
Grape variety
100% Riesling.
