Description
The balance and richness of a red wine from the Rhône Valley
The estate
An emblematic name among the great wines of the Northern Rhône Valley, Maison Paul Jaboulet-Aîné was founded in 1834 in Tain L’Hermitage. Renowned winemaker and oenologist Caroline Frey heads this illustrious house, which has been owned by the Frey family since 2006. Maison Paul Jaboulet Aîné tends 125 hectares of vines spread across exceptional appellations such as Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage, Hermitage, Cornas, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu and Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise.
The vineyard
Highly prized in the 16th century, Saint-Joseph wines were lauded by the kings of France for their delicacy. These wines were once known as “Vins de Mauves”, a name taken from the town of Mauves. Between 1956 and 1969, the vineyards of Tournon sur Rhône were brought into the shared Saint-Joseph AOC, which thus became one of the leading ambassadors of Rhône Valley wines.
