The Producer

Established in 1844 by Christopher Rawson Penfold and his wife Mary, the Penfolds estate has become a leading wine producer in Australia, with a great international reputation for its powerful red wines. The estate today produces a range of multi-vineyard and multi-region blends, as well as single-varietal wines aged in American or French oak.

The California Collection

The Penfolds "California Collection" is a project 20 years in the making, harking back to the time when Penfolds winemakers first imported heritage vine cuttings from South Australia to plant in the sunny vineyards of California. The four wines comprising this collection are true "citizens of the world," unrestricted by geographical borders and representing the concept of multiregional winemaking. Based on fruit from Napa Valley grown on originally Australian vine cuttings, some of these wines also include fruit from Australia.

The Wine

The Penfolds Bin 600 Cabernet Shiraz 2018 is an ode to the Creston "600" Ranch, a reference point to the start of the Penfolds American adventure, where the Penfolds team first planted vine cuttings from South Australia in 1998. It comprises a blend of Californian Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, a varietal blend near and dear to the Penfolds brand.

Vinification and Ageing

This red wine by Penfolds comprises a blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Shiraz from various Californian AVAs: Napa Valley, Sonoma and Paso Robles. It is aged for a period of 16 months in American oak (40% new and 60% one-year-old barrels).

The Penfolds Bin 600 Cabernet Shiraz 2018 is a medium-bodied red wine, offering flavours of black fruit, sweet liquorice, dried dates, rare beef and cocoa on the palate. The overall texture is driven by Shiraz, an ode to 175 years of Penfolds savoir-faire.
