A fresh and precise Australian white wine from Eden Valley

The estate
Founded in 1847 by Joseph Gilbert, Pewsey Vale is the first vineyard in Eden Valley in South Australia. After a period of abandonment in the 1920s, the estate was revived in the late 1960s by Geoffrey Angas Parsons and Wyndham Hill-Smith. Today owned by S. Smith and Son and managed by the Hill-Smith family for over 60 years, Pewsey Vale remains the only Australian producer exclusively dedicated to Riesling.

The vineyard
The Estate Riesling comes from a single vineyard located in Eden Valley. The vines are planted on gentle slopes facing north, north-east and north-west, benefiting from optimal sunshine. The shallow sandy soils are scattered with quartz and schist gravel, imparting distinctive mineral characteristics to the wine.

The vintage
The 2024 vintage began with a dry start to the season favoring rapid and early growth. Late spring and early autumn rains supported average yields across the vineyard. The dry and mild summer accelerated ripening, while cool nights played a crucial role in preserving the aromatic intensity and natural acidity of the grapes. These conditions gave rise to a classic and balanced Eden Valley Riesling character. The harvest took place between February 18 and March 4, 2024.

Winemaking and aging
The 2024 Estate Riesling was vinified in stainless steel tanks using indigenous fermentation, letting natural yeasts guide the process. This method preserves the purity of this South Australian wine and reinforces the expression of its terroir.
