Description
Roc d’Anglade crafts an exceptional red wine from the Languedoc, aromatic and refined
The Estate
Written records attest to the presence of vines in 936 in Langlade, a small village in the Gard. The phylloxera crisis put an end to the growth of this then-thriving vineyard. In 1999, Rémy Pédreno, a virtuoso winemaker, and his wife founded the Roc d’Anglade estate. Covering 10 hectares, the estate’s vineyard enjoys an exceptional limestone terroir in Langlade.
Produced under the IGP
Pays du Gard designation, the wines of Roc d’Anglade authentically express their terroir of origin and rank among the elite wines of the Languedoc.
The Vineyard
This Reserva Especial Numéro 8 cuvée from Roc d’Anglade is made from a 5.5-hectare vineyard that is certified organic, naturally grassed and located on north-, east- and south-west-facing slopes.
With an average age of 25 to 30 years, these vines grow on limestone marls over a clay-silt-siliceous subsoil.
The Wine
This Reserva Especial Numéro 8 cuvée from Roc d’Anglade echoes an ancient Spanish tradition that emerged with the rise of estate bottling.
Through a unique blend of different vintages, this tradition aims to create a wine whose aromatic expression authentically reflects the history and terroir of each estate.
Winemaking and Ageing
Harvested early by hand, the grapes are lightly destemmed. Fermentation with indigenous yeasts is followed by vinification in open vats without extraction. Maceration lasts from 7 to 21 days. The wine is aged in foudres.
Blend
Bottled in February 2020, this Reserva Especial Numéro 8 cuvée from Roc d’Anglade is built on a base of the 2018 vintage, complemented by the 2016, 2015 and 2017 vintages.
Each vintage first underwent a period of ageing in foudres (from 18 months for the 2018 to 54 months for the 2015), followed by 12 months of bottle ageing to develop the complexity, freshness and vitality of this highly refined cuvée.
Carignan, Mourvèdre, Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault are the grape varieties used to craft this Reserva Especial Numéro 8 cuvée.
