Description

Recognised as the first Super Tuscan wine, San Felice unveils a special edition to celebrate 50 years of a fine wine

The estate

Nestled in the sublime scenery of Chianti Classico, San Felice is an essential name among the great wines of Tuscany.

A former medieval hamlet and estate owned by the Grisaldi del Taja family from 1700 to 1968, San Felice is a wine estate driven by a constant quest for excellence as well as an excelling know-how that enhances the fine Italian terroirs of IGT Toscana.

Today, the estate tends to 685 hectares of land, including 179 hectares of vines spread across the Chianti Classico (150 hectares), Montalcino (23 hectares) and Bolgheri (6 hectares) winegrowing areas.

In collaboration with the universities of Florence and Pisa, the estate has been developing its "Vitiarium" for many years, an experimental vineyard of 2.5 hectares where 270 grape varieties are grown. These studies and experiments have enabled to develop the blend of the estate's wines over the years.

The wine

The first Super Tuscan wine, Vigorello di San Felice is a wine created in 1968 with the goal of breaking with the traditional winemaking methods of its time. The name of this fine Tuscan wine refers to the world of cycling. Vigorello does not mean "vigour", but is in fact a derivative of Vigorelli, the name of a Milanese velodrome known for its historic sporting duels in the 1940s and 1960s.

Initially comprising exclusively Sangiovese grapes, the blend of this wine has evolved over the years, mirroring the estate’s pioneering and visionary spirit.

Vigorello 50th Anniversary 2018 by San Felice celebrates the 50th harvest of this fine Tuscan wine. To mark this special occasion, each bottle is adorned with a specific packaging.
