The estate

One of the six pillars of the family's estates, Frescobaldi - Tenuta Castiglioni is located in the hills of Val di Pesa, between Siena and Florence, in the heart of Tuscany. Elegant and fruity, with a contemporary style typical of this area of Tuscany, the wines of Frescobaldi Tenuta Castiglioni are made from Merlot, Sangiovese and Cabernet Franc grapes.

The vintage

The variable climatic conditions throughout the growing cycle determined the intrinsic character of this 2018 vintage.
Sufficient water reserves were guaranteed by the heavy winter rainfall. Alternating temperatures and sunshine during the spring allowed the vines to develop well and flower beautifully.
At the end of the cycle, the dry environment resulting from a hot summer period with little rainfall, brought a pronounced concentration to the fully ripened grapes, leading to this IGT Toscana wine.

Tasting

Colour
The ruby red colour is bright, with purplish highlights.

Nose
The nose of Tenuta Frescobaldi di Castiglioni 2018 has an explosion of black fruit scents (blackberry, blackcurrant) which combine marvellously with light spicy and licorice notes.

Palate
Elegant right from the attack, the palate has a wonderfully enveloping structure. Fine tannins along with a lovely acidity reinforce the freshness up to a delicious and spicy finish.
