An intense and elegant Italian Chianti Classico by Castellare di Castellina
The estate
Founded in the 1970s by Paolo Panerai, Castellare di Castellina was born from the union of four historic estates in the heart of Chianti Classico in Tuscany. Spanning 80 hectares, including 33 hectares of vines planted in a natural amphitheater at 370 meters above sea level, the estate remains under the direction of its founder. A pioneer in the clonal selection of Sangiovese in collaboration with the Universities of Milan and Florence, and among the first Italian estates to adopt French oak barrels, Castellare combines innovation with respect for traditional Tuscan grape varieties.
The vineyard
Torre Alta comes from the namesake vineyard located in Castellina in Chianti, in the province of Siena, at the heart of the Chianti Classico appellation. The vines, over 30 years old, are planted between 450 and 510 meters above sea level on limestone soils. Trained in single Guyot with a density of 3,500 vines per hectare, they produce a controlled yield of 60 quintals per hectare. Harvest takes place during the first half of October.
The vintage
The 2024 vintage benefited from balanced climatic conditions. A mild spring with well-distributed rainfall encouraged harmonious vine development. The warm summer was tempered by cool nights, helping preserve the grapes’ natural acidity and achieve optimal ripeness.
Winemaking and aging
Winemaking for Torre Alta 2024 is carried out in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged for 7 months in French oak barrels of 2.25 and 5 hectoliters, followed by 7 months of bottle aging before release.
