Description
The producer
Located in Dizy in the heart of the Marne Valley, the Jacquesson Champagne House, founded in 1798, was taken over by the Chiquet family in 1974. Jean-Hervé and Laurent Chiquet, two passionate brothers, produce exceptional cuvées thanks to their parcel-based approach and their unique vinification and ageing philosophy. The brothers express the unique character and richness of their very large 28-hectare chalk terroirs.
With its individually numbered vintages that are renowned for their finesse, their aerial purity and their exceptional ageing potential, Jacquesson is poised among the elite of the finest names in Champagne.
The wine
Jacquesson's 2005 Avize Champ Caïn is a Blanc de Blancs champagne produced on a terroir composed of chalky clay-sand-lime soils with chalk gravels on Campanian chalk. The total surface area of production is 1.30 hectares. Bottled on 18 May 2006, disgorgement took place in February 2015.
The vintage
2005 was marked by a cold, dry winter followed by a milder spring. The hot and humid summer preceded a late season with ideal conditions before the harvest.
The blend
Jacquesson's 2005 Avize Champ Caïn is a 100% Chardonnay.
The tasting
Nose
Discreet and complex, the nose gives off mineral and chalky fragrances.
