The Pure and Mineral Expression of a Great White Wine from Anjou
The Estate
Located in Rochefort-sur-Loire, in the heart of the Loire Valley, Château de Plaisance has ancient origins but was truly established in 1960 under the impetus of the Rochais family. A pioneer of agroecology, the estate has been certified organic since 1995 and biodynamic since 2008. In 2019, young winemaker Vanessa Cherruau took over the reins of the estate, becoming its majority shareholder in 2024. Under her leadership, the estate has established itself as an unmissable reference in the Anjou Noir, producing terroir-driven wines of great precision, in deep respect for living organisms and biodiversity.
The Vineyard
The 25-hectare vineyard flourishes on the prestigious terroirs of the Anjou Noir. The vines that give rise to this cuvée, around 35 years old, are planted on the Chaume hillside. This unique terroir is made up of dark soils combining schist, spilite, and sandstone. The vines are cultivated with the utmost respect for the environment: no ploughing whatsoever, natural cover crops rolled flat, Guyot-Poussard pruning to preserve sap flow, and the planting of hedges and trees to encourage rich biodiversity.
Winemaking and Ageing
The grapes are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness. In the cellar, the Ronceray 2024 is vinified as naturally as possible, using indigenous yeasts and without any oenological additives. The wine is then aged for two-thirds of the blend in barrels and large oak vats to add complexity, and one-third in tanks to preserve the freshness and purity of the fruit.
