Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the 2024 Savennières from Château de Plaisance
Tasting Notes
Appearance
The glass reveals a pale yellow to light golden-yellow hue, adorned with green or golden highlights.
Nose
The nose is particularly expressive and complex. It exudes rich aromas of ripe fruit such as peach and quince, harmoniously blended with notes of honey, hay and subtle exotic touches.
Palate
On the palate, this wine offers a full, round and generously fruity character while retaining a perfectly dry profile. A vibrant acidity and a fine minerality underpin the whole, extending the tasting experience towards an exceptionally long finish.
Food and Wine Pairings
This white wine pairs wonderfully with seafood, such as pan-seared scallops, lobster or a firm-fleshed fish like pikeperch with beurre blanc. It also enhances white meats in sauce, refined plant-based cuisine, as well as local goat cheeses.
Serving and Cellaring
Blessed with remarkable ageing potential, this 2024 vintage can be enjoyed in its youth for its bright fruit character, but it will continue to develop greater complexity in the cellar and can be enjoyed until around 2044.
The Intensity and Minerality of a Great Dry White Wine from the Loire Valley
The Estate
Located in Rochefort-sur-Loire, in the heart of the Anjou Noir, Château de Plaisance is a benchmark estate in the Loire, whose modern history began in 1960 with the Rochais family. Since 2019, winemaker Vanessa Cherruau has been at the helm of this 25-hectare property. A pioneer of agroecology, the estate stands out for a vineyard holding made up exclusively of great terroirs and historic crus. Under her leadership, the estate is pushing its environmental commitment even further, giving rise to deep, distinctive wines.
The Vineyard
The grapes come from the lieu-dit Les Mauriers, located within the prestigious Savennières appellation. This distinctive terroir is characterised by wind-blown sandy soils resting on a bedrock of fractured schist, providing excellent drainage and forcing the vines to root deeply. Farmed organically since 1995 and biodynamically since 2008, the vineyard benefits from advanced agroecological practices, such as ceasing tillage and planting trees and hedgerows, thereby fostering rich biodiversity.
Winemaking and Ageing
Winemaking is carried out with great precision to preserve the purity of the fruit and the natural tension of the terroir. The process aims to build a full, textured character while maintaining a perfectly dry profile, most likely supported by lees ageing, which lends volume and aromatic complexity to the wine.
Grape Variety
100% Chenin Blanc.
