Description
The harmony and freshness of a fine wine from Saint-Émilion
The estate
The Château Faugères terroir dates back to the 19th century. In 1987, Pierre-Bernard Guire and his wife inherited the estate and elevated its vineyard, with the help of Michel Rolland, to the highest level of the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation. The estate teams are constantly in search for quality, aiming to express the estate’s unique terroir in the glass.
The vineyard
The Château Faugères vineyard covers 37 hectares in the Saint-Emilion appellation. The vineyard is managed with sustainable agriculture.
The vintage
The 2019 vintage marked a milestone at Château Faugères. The remarkable Saint-Emilion terroir, with its ideal south-facing orientation, performed beautifully in 2019. The vineyard’s mosaic of terroirs allowed the vines to resist the heatwaves of the summer. The harvest was rather early and spread out, yielding fully ripened fruit bound for a high-quality blend.
The winemaking
Manual harvest from September 18 to October 8. Fermentation from 25 to 30 days.
The ageing
12 months of ageing. 1/3 in new French oak barrels, 1/3 in barrels of one previous wine, 1/3 in barrels of two previous wines.
The blend
Merlot (70%), cabernet franc (21%), cabernet sauvignon (9%).
The tasting
Tasted en primeur, the Château Faugères 2019 is a concentrated wine with great harmony. This great Bordeaux wine is balanced and full of freshness.
