Description
A concentrated and aromatic Classified Great Growth from Saint-Émilion
The estate
Located at the heart of the village of Saint-Émilion near the monolithic church, Château La Couspaude has belonged to the Aubert family since 1750. This Classified Great Growth, known in the Middle Ages as "La Croix Paute", takes its name from the cross at the entrance of the estate, which serves as a meeting point for pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela.
The vineyard
Château La Couspaude overlooks a 7.01 hectare vineyard. The vines, aged by 30 years on average, are planted on the limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion. The grape varieties at the vineyard are made up of Merlot (75%), Cabernet Franc (20%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (5%).
Winemaking and ageing
Harvested manually in crates with plot-based selection, the grapes are subject to a manual sort, followed by full vinification in new barrels. Low-temperature, pre-fermentation maceration. Manual punching down. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in barrels, as is the ageing process, for 18 months.
