Description
The finesse and balance of a Saint-Émilion red wine
The estate
The vineyards of Château Le Prieuré have been cultivated in the heart of Saint-Émilion since the 16th century. Formerly known as the Premier Cru des Cordeliers, it was renowned at the dawn of the 20th century. A Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé since 1955, Château Le Prieuré looks after a very fine vineyard comprising several blocks of vines. The talented Pénélope Godefroy, oenologist and agricultural engineer, produces wines with a harmonious style that reveals all the complexity of the Saint-Émilion terroir.
The vineyard
Château Le Prieuré is a Saint-Émilion wine from a 12-hectare vineyard, including 11.6 hectares in production, planted on the appellation's limestone plateau. The 19 plots of old vines, averaging 33 years in age, are cultivated on the clay-limestone terroir using organic farming methods certified by Ecocert since 2018, as well as biodynamic practices.
The vintage
2022 was a warm, dry year overall. The Merlot grapes were harvested between 13 and 22 September. The Cabernet Franc was harvested on 26 September.
Winemaking and ageing
Vatting lasted 20 days. 30% of the wine was aged in new barrels, one-wine barrels and amphorae, for 18 months.
Blend
Château Le Prieuré 2022 is a blend of Merlot (92%) and Cabernet Franc (8%).
