Description
The freshness and elegance of a Provence white wine
The property
Founded in 1940 by Louis Ferrari, Château Malherbe is an emblematic wine estate in Provence, located in Bormes-Les-Mimosas. Today led by Sébastien Ferrari, the vineyard extends over 25 hectares, divided between the distinct terroirs of Malherbe and Pointe du Diable. This estate stands out for its meticulous viticultural practices, including manual harvesting and aging in new barrels, producing wines with mineral and iodine notes. Certified biodynamic since 2021, Château Malherbe embodies family heritage and oenological innovation.
The vineyard
The plots dedicated to Château Malherbe Blanc are located on the foothills of Cap Bénat in the Côtes de Provence. This unique terroir is characterized by a mix of brown-red clays and silvery schists that give the wine its distinctive minerality. Plots n°19 (rolle) and n°20 (sémillon) benefit from a privileged exposure, allowing optimal maturation of the grapes while preserving their natural freshness.
Vinification and aging
The grapes are hand-picked and then gently pressed in whole bunches to preserve all their aromatic purity. Fermentation is carried out with natural yeasts, followed by a malolactic fermentation that brings digestibility and roundness. The aging takes place on lees for 10 months in different containers: 600-liter demi-muids, 2500-liter foudres, stainless steel tanks and concrete eggs, thus offering complexity and balance to the final wine.
Grape varieties
The Château Malherbe Blanc 2022 is made from a blend of the freshness and minerality of the rolle with the richness and creaminess of the sémillon.
