Description
A full-bodied and lively Premier Grand Cru Classé from Saint-Émilion
The property
Founded in 1887 by Albert Macquin, a pioneer of phylloxera-resistant grafting, the Château Pavie Macquin flourishes on 15 hectares of limestone slopes in Saint-Émilion. Still a family-owned estate descended from Albert Macquin, the domaine has been under the direction of Nicolas Thienpont since 1994, assisted by consultant Stéphane Derenoncourt. Promoted to Premier Grand Cru Classé in 2006, this Bordeaux estate upholds its founder’s innovative spirit through an artisanal approach emphasizing precision and excellence.
The vineyard
The vineyard of Château Pavie Macquin stretches over a clay-limestone plateau overlying starry limestone, an exceptional terroir located on the Pavie hill in Saint-Émilion. This privileged geographic situation, combined with the limestone nature of the soils, gives the wines their distinctive mineral character and remarkable aging potential.
Grape varieties
The Blend of this Château Pavie Macquin 2015 is composed of 84% merlot, 14% cabernet franc and 2% cabernet sauvignon, reflecting the typicity of the great terroirs of Saint-Émilion.
