A Saint-Emilion Premier Cru that marks a turning point in the estate’s history

The estate

On the right bank of Bordeaux, where most estates hardly exceed 10 hectares, Château Troplong Mondot is one of the largest estates in Saint-Emilion. Founded in 1700, Château Troplong Mondot, a Premier Grand Cru Classé, proudly gravitates among the finest Saint-Émilion wines.

The 2017 vintage marks the arrival of the French reinsurance company, Scor, as one of the estate’s new shareholders, as well as a new management team orchestrated by Aymeric de Gironde and the implementation of a programme to renovate the technical facilities.

The vineyard

Poised at an altitude of 110 metres, Château Troplong Mondot’s single-block vineyard spreads across 43 hectares. The vineyard is entirely managed using integrated viticultural practices. The vines are 30 years old on average and rest on clay-limestone soils, a typical feature of the Saint-Emilion appellation.

The tasting

Nose

Expressing all the depth and sensuality of the fine Saint-Emilion limestone terroir, the bouquet has an intense aromatic density and reveals all the brilliance and freshness of the fruit which is delicately carved by elegant floral fragrances.

Palate

On the palate, the word harmony makes perfect sense as this wine displays a fresh and generous expression, features conferred by the fine limestone terroirs. Deliciously persistent, the finish leads to a beautiful length, a wine that will stay long on the mind and the palate.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Troplong Mondot is a little closed to begin, soon unfurling to reveal expanding notions of warm blackberries, wild blueberries and licorice plus hints of smoked meats, black olives, pencil shavings and truffles. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is packed mouth-coating black fruits, exploding into loads of earthy sparks with a soft, velvety texture from ripe, rounded tannins. It finishes with spectacular freshness and loads of layers.
