The estate

On Bordeaux’s Right Bank, where most estates scarcely exceed 10 hectares, Château Troplong Mondot is one of the largest domaines in Saint-Émilion. Founded in 1700, this Premier Grand Cru Classé stands at the pinnacle of the Saint-Émilion appellation.

The vineyard

A benchmark among the great wines of Saint-Émilion, Château Troplong Mondot oversees a single-block 33-hectare vineyard, peaking at 110 meters in elevation. The vineyard is farmed entirely using sustainable viticulture. The vines, averaging 20 years of age, are planted on clay-limestone soils typical of the appellation. The varietal composition includes Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc.

1996
This vintage is the product of a year marked by contrasting, complex weather. After a mild winter punctuated by a harsh February and an early flowering in June, summer combined heat and rainfall, allowing for optimal sugar accumulation. Starting in September, the grapes ripened slowly, developing beautiful sweet berries with preserved acidity. This exceptional wine marries power and freshness, revealing a complex nose with floral, fruity, woody, and spicy notes. With structured tannins and remarkable aromatic nobility, it is a great age-worthy wine destined for a fine evolution.

2006
2006 stands out for its straightforward, upright character, the result of a cool year that imposed late ripening. This blend, 90% Merlot complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon (5%) and Cabernet Franc (5%), reveals lovely concentration and remarkable power. Generous tannins provide a solid structure and fine framework, typical of great vintages for cellaring. Concentrated and tannic, this wine possesses the nobility and balance characteristic of great terroirs, and is destined for a long evolution in the cellar.

2016
This vintage embodies an exceptional sun-drenched year, marked by a remarkable balance of extremes. This blend composed of 85% Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon (13%) and Cabernet Franc (2%), expresses all the generosity and power of the terroir. The year’s abundant sunshine enabled optimal concentration, giving the wine a beautiful structure and captivating aromatic intensity. Generous on the palate and powerful on the attack, this wine combines elegance and robustness, showcasing the remarkable potential of this outstanding vintage.
