Description
The estate
Founded in 1982 by winemaker, Claudio Conterno, and the oenologist, Guido Fantino, Conterno Fantino is an must-know reference among the finest Piedmont wines. Located in the municipality of Monforte d'Alba, the family estate cares for a vineyard that extends over 27 hectares of vines, certified in organic farming. Producing fine wines while constantly seeking to manage the vineyard with the utmost respect for the environment, Conterno Fantino's wines are the pure and refined expression of illustrious Barolo terroirs.
The wine
Conterno Fantino's Barolo Ginestra "Vigna Sori Ginestra" 2018 is made from a selection of terroirs within the Ginestra cru, located between 340 and 360 metres above sea level in the municipality of Monforte d'Alba. The vines were planted in the early 1970s and rest on a soil composed of silt, clay and sand.
The vintage
The rainy spring season preceded a hot summer and a mild autumn which ensured the gradual and optimal ripening of the grapes. Stemming from a vineyard in an exceptionally healthy condition, the grapes harvested lead to high quality wines that combine power, elegance and fine tannins.
The vinification and ageing
The grapes are harvested and sorted by hand. Maceration in horizontal stainless steel tanks for 12 to 15 days. Fermentation with wild yeasts. Aged for 20 to 24 months in French oak barrels.
The blend
Conterno Fantino's 2018 Barolo Ginestra "Vigna Sori Ginestra" is a 100% Nebbiolo.
