The freshness and elegance of a Chianti Classico wine
Domenico Poggiali acquired Fattoria Fèlsina in 1966, during a period of time when Tuscany was experiencing a real viticultural revolution with Super Tuscan wines. Located to the southeast of the historic area of Chianti Classico and Crete Senesi in the Province of Siena, the Fèlsina estate covers nearly 600 hectares, 95 of which are planted with vines which bring together all of the greatest terroirs that make up Tuscany’s charm and reputation. Fattoria Fèlsina’s philosophy is based on simple values: to reveal the expression of the Tuscan terroir and grape varieties in Italian wines which embody history and tradition.
Produced since 1983, Felsina's Rancia Riserva is a Chianti Classico wine made from southwest facing vineyards that are poised at an altitude of between 400 and 420 metres, on limestone and marl soils. The name of this wine refers to the terroir of "Rancia", a former Benedictine monastery located in Castelnuovo Berardenga.
Vinification and ageing
Following the manual harvest, which takes place during the first three weeks of October, the grapes are taken to the cellar, where they start the vinification process. The grapes, selected for their quality, are destemmed and pressed, then fermented and macerated in stainless steel tanks for 16 to 20 days at a temperature of 28 to 30 degrees. Daily punching of the cap and pumping over are carried out. Aged in French oak barrels for 18 to 20 months before final blending and then further aged in bottles for 6 to 8 months.
