An essential reference point for the great wines of Italy, Frescobaldi embodies the excellence of winegrowing in Tuscany. With seven different estates located in benchmark growing areas, Frescobaldi stands out for its ability to illustrate the full diversity of expression of the greatest Tuscan terroirs. Each of the estates has its own history, its own terroir, and passionate men and women who are driven by the desire to produce great wines. Frescobaldi - Tenuta di Nipozzano is placed in the heart of the famous winegrowing area of Chianti Rufina, one of eight geographical boundaries of the Chianti appellation. The wines of Tenuta di Nipozzano, symbolic of the Florentine wine tradition, are characterised by their exceptional aromatic range, with typically balsamic notes, their exceptional longevity on the palate and their great ageing potential. Opulent and profound, the wines of Tenuta di Nipozzano reflect a unique expression of the sangiovese grape, varietal to the terroir of this part of Tuscany.
Produced only with the best years, in the DOCG Chianti Rufina appellation and with Sangiovese grapes from the vineyard bearing the same name, Montesodi by Frescobaldi - Tenuta di Nipozzano is an exceptional wine that was first produced in 1974. According to the estate, Montesodi embodies the finest expression of Sangiovese in Castello Nipozzano. Full of character, Montesodi stands out due to its aromatic expression and length on the palate.
The winter was mild and dry. Marked by a few rainy spells, the spring was very mild and favoured the vine’s early budburst. The flowering was even. The summer was hot and dry up until the early harvest. The harvested grapes were perfectly ripe and rich.
Winemaking and ageing
The hand-picked grapes were rigorously sorted to keep only the highest quality grapes. Fermentation for about 10 days followed by maceration for one month. Malolactic fermentation and racking. Aged in 30 hl French and Austrian oak barrels for 15 months, followed by a few months of additional bottle ageing before being released onto the market, in order to develop the aromatic expression and elegance of this wine.
The colour is an intense ruby red with purple highlights.
Powerful and elegant, the nose combines floral and fruity fragrances (ripe fruit, red berries, black berries, plums) with sweet and spicy notes.
Dense and well-balanced, the wine is seductive due to its elegance, its silky feel and its fine tannins. The finish is suave with a beautiful length.
