Description

A rich, intense and fine Tuscan red wine

The estate

An illustrious reference among the finest Italian wines, Frescobaldi embodies the excellence of Tuscan viticulture. Owning seven different estates located in emblematic areas, Frescobaldi stands out due to its ability to showcase the utterly diverse expression of the greatest Tuscan terroirs. Each of the estates has its own history, its own terroir, and passionate men and women who are driven by the desire to produce great wines. This Mormoreto is a wine that stems from the Frescobaldi - Tenuta di Nipozzano estate.

The wine

This Mormoreto wine by Frescobaldi - Tenuta di Nipozzano is a Tuscan wine that has been produced since 1983, only during the finest vintages, from a south-west facing vineyard situated at an altitude of 300 metres and resting on sandy soils.

Since the 2013 vintage, this wine has been blended from old vines of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, in addition to the traditional Sangiovese varietal. This bold red wine blends finesse and harmony with a remarkable ageing potential.

The vintage

A cold and sunny winter preceded a cool and rainy spring, replenishing the water reserves. The heat of the summer days is offset by cool nights, ideal conditions to ensure an even and qualitative ripening of the grapes.

Vinification and ageing

The hand-picked grapes are rigorously sorted in the vineyard and in the cellar. Malolactic fermentation is carried out after devatting. The wine is aged in French oak barrels for two years, followed by a few months' additional ageing in bottle to develop the balance, expression and elegance of this wine.

The tasting

Colour

The colour is a beautiful ruby red with purple highlights.

Nose

The nose gives off fruity (red fruits, raspberries, black cherries) and floral (jasmine, rosehips) fragrances with notes of dates and figs. When aerated, aromas of coffee, beans, cocoa powder, tea and tobacco emerge.

Palate

The complex and well-balanced palate seduces with its silky tannins whose finesse stretches to a persistent and aromatic finish.
