The estate
Founded in 1797 by Jean Latour, Maison Louis Latour has embodied the excellence of Burgundy wines for more than two centuries. Based in Aloxe-Corton, the house farms fifty hectares of vines, including nearly twenty-nine hectares of Grands Crus, the largest holding of its kind in Burgundy. Led by Florent Latour, the house remains fully independent and family-owned. A pioneer of Chardonnay in Corton-Charlemagne, Louis Latour has combined its roles as grower-owner and négociant since 1867.
The vineyard
The Genevrières climat lies in Meursault, south of Volnay and Pommard, in the Côte de Beaune. The vines, averaging thirty-five years of age, benefit from a particularly favourable south-east exposure. The terroir is characterised by stony, pebbly soils over a marl and limestone subsoil, which contributes to the wine's finesse. The grapes are harvested by hand, with an average yield of forty hectolitres per hectare.
Winemaking and ageing
The Meursault 1er cru "Genevrières" 2022 is traditionally vinified in oak barrels and undergoes full malolactic fermentation. It is then aged for eight to ten months in French oak barrels, 50% of them new, sourced from the Tonnellerie Louis Latour and given a medium toast.
Grape variety
This Burgundy wine is made from Chardonnay.
