An exceptional Trousseau Revealing the Purity of Patagonia by Matias Riccitelli

The Estate

Founded in 2009 by winemaker Matías Riccitelli, who remains its current owner and director, Riccitelli Wines first made its mark in Mendoza before expanding into Patagonia in 2015. This globally recognized Argentine estate stands out for its commitment to showcasing extreme terroirs and preserving an ancient winemaking heritage. By exploring southern regions such as Río Negro, Matías Riccitelli breathes new life into forgotten grape varieties and old vines, crafting distinctive, pure wines that are deeply respectful of their environment.

The Vineyard

The grapes come from the Allen sub-region, located in the province of Río Negro in Patagonia. This distinctive terroir is characterized by silty loam soils bordering the riverbanks. The ungrafted vines originate from old vines planted in the late 1960s. The vineyard is managed according to a strict agroecological approach, excluding any use of herbicides or systemic products, which helps maintain naturally low yields, close to 5,000 kg/ha.

Winemaking and Aging

The grapes for the Old Vines from Patagonia Bastardo Trousseau 2024 are harvested by hand in small 20 kg crates to preserve the integrity of the bunches. In the cellar, 25% of the harvest is kept as whole clusters, while the rest is destemmed. The berries are transferred by gravity into small French oak vats. Fermentation takes place using indigenous yeasts, with temperatures controlled between 24 and 26°C. Finally, the wine is aged in used French oak barrels, continuing until the following harvest.

Grape Variety

This wine is made exclusively from 100% Trousseau, a grape variety originating in the Jura, also known locally as Bastardo.
