Characteristics and tasting advice for Mon Chevalier Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 from Morlet
Tasting
Color
This wine displays a deep red hue with purple highlights.
Nose
It captivates with an intense, complex bouquet blending red and black fruits, enhanced by touches of licorice, fresh blond tobacco, and a hint of lavender.
Palate
Generous and full-bodied, the palate extends the aromas of the nose with a tannic structure that is both rich and perfectly balanced, revealing remarkable intensity. The finesse of the tannins and the aromatic depth come together harmoniously to offer a beautifully long finish. Designed to age gracefully, this exceptional wine reaches its peak after a few years of cellaring.
A California Red wine combining power and refinement
The estate
Founded in 2006 by the Franco-American couple Luc and Jodie Morlet, Morlet Family Vineyards showcases the prestigious terroirs of Sonoma County and Napa Valley. Heir to a Champagne winemaking lineage spanning five generations, Luc Morlet, an oenology graduate from Reims, honed his expertise at Château Dauzac in Margaux before settling in California alongside Jodie. Together, they initially established vineyards dedicated to Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc before broadening their range to other grape varieties such as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Hailed by the world’s foremost critics, the estate’s wines enjoy unanimous acclaim.
The wine
Artisanally crafted using traditional winemaking techniques, this special wine is dedicated to their son, Paul Morlet. It is called “Mon Chevalier” or “My Knight”.
The vineyard
Located at the foot of Knights Valley, our vineyard, composed of stony clay and silty soils typical of the Red Hills, benefits from the proximity of Mount St. Helena. This warm and windy climate is ideal for the long ripening of Bordeaux red grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, and Petit Verdot.
Winemaking and aging
The hand-harvest at night ensures the freshness of the berries, which are transported in crates on refrigerated trucks. A meticulous sorting, performed cluster by cluster and berry by berry, guarantees optimal selection. Natural fermentation, initiated by indigenous yeasts, is accompanied by pigeages in stainless steel tanks and oak barrels, supported by Gyrobox™ technology. After 16 months of aging in meticulously selected French oak barrels, the wine is bottled without fining or filtration to preserve its full authenticity.
