Description

A fresh and balanced second wine from Saint-Émilion

The Estate
The Château Figeac, an emblematic Bordeaux estate, dates back to the Gallo-Roman era, with archaeological remains bearing witness to its rich past. Since 2022, it has been classified Premier Grand Cru Classé, a recognition of its excellence. For over 120 years, the Manoncourt family, notably Thierry Manoncourt, has shaped its history through rigorous viticultural practices.

The Vineyard
As an emblematic château in the wine landscape of Saint-Émilion, Figeac stands out for its unique terroir located at the western tip of the appellation, bordering Pomerol. Its vineyards rest on three magnificent gravel ridges, providing great geological diversity. The care taken to preserve natural ecosystems attests to the estate's deep commitment to environmental balance.

The Wine
As the second wine of the estate, Petit-Figeac is exclusively sourced from the vines of Château Figeac. This exceptional terroir benefits from soils with filtering properties and natural drainage, considerable assets in the face of challenging climatic conditions. These characteristics allow the vines to thrive even in the most demanding vintages, ensuring a faithful expression of this unique terroir.

The Vintage
The winemaking season at Château Figeac was marked by a total commitment in the face of capricious weather. Despite flowering being disrupted by spring rains, veraison took place under improved conditions, promoting the progressive ripening of the grapes. The summer months allowed partial correction of the climate's effects, but the September rains complicated the management of ripeness. The harvest thus required great precision and bold choices, driven by a team that was attentive and responsive at every stage.

Winemaking and aging
For the 2024 Petit-Figeac, the harvest took place from September 20 to October 5. After a rigorous selection of the grapes, the wine underwent aging with 20% in new oak barrels, providing structure and complexity while preserving the estate's characteristic fruit and freshness.

Blend
This 2024 Petit-Figeac is the result of a blend of Merlot (45%), Cabernet Sauvignon (30%) and Cabernet Franc (25%).
