Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Villa Antinori 2022
Tasting
Appearance
Displaying a beautiful ruby intensity with violet reflections, this wine reveals a deep, luminous hue typical of great Tuscan blends.
Nose
The nose opens with a generous bouquet of ripe red fruits—cherry, plum, and wild strawberry—enhanced by delicate spicy notes and a touch of garrigue. Subtle woody aromas and a light floral nuance complete this elegant aromatic profile.
Palate
The attack is direct and fruity, supported by silky, well-integrated tannins. The balance between freshness and generosity is expressed with finesse, leading to a persistent finish with spicy and lightly toasted notes.
Food and Wine Pairings
This wine pairs beautifully with pasta served with rich sauces, grilled or braised red meats, roasts, and game. It will also complement aged cheeses and fine Italian charcuterie.
Service and Cellaring
Serve between 60 and 64 °F. This wine can be enjoyed now for its youthful fruitiness or cellared until around 2030 to develop greater complexity and depth.
The excellence of a renowned Italian estate founded in 1385
The Estate
The Antinori family is among the oldest and most respected wine dynasties in Italy. Since 1385, twenty-six generations have succeeded one another at the head of this Florentine House, with the constant ambition of combining tradition and innovation in the pursuit of quality. Pioneers in the creation of Super Tuscans in the 1970s, Antinori - Villa Antinori helped revolutionize the Italian wine landscape while remaining deeply attached to the identity of their terroir. Today, the House is led by Piero Antinori and his three daughters, who skillfully carry on the family legacy.
The Vineyard
This Villa Antinori comes from selected vineyards across Tuscany, some of which are located in Chianti Classico, the historic cradle of the family. These terroirs benefit from a Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and cool nights that favor aromatic concentration and refined tannins. The diversity of soils—clay-limestone and schist—contributes to the complexity and balance characteristic of this wine.
Vinification and Aging
The grapes, harvested at perfect ripeness, are vinified separately by grape variety in order to preserve the specific characteristics of each. After careful fermentation, the wine is aged in oak—combining French barrels and large casks—which lends harmony and complexity before the final blending and bottling.
Grape Varieties
This Villa Antinori 2022 is an IGT Toscana wine made from a blend of sangiovese, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and syrah. Sangiovese, Tuscany’s emblematic grape variety, brings structure, freshness, and fruity character, while the international varieties enrich the blend with roundness, depth, and aromatic complexity.
