The 2010 Pergolaia is a blend of mostly Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Caiarossa is one of the most important wineries in Pisa province and it is representative of a new generation of Tuscan wines now being made in coastal Tuscany. These three grape varieties make perfect partners. The Sangiovese adds the berry freshness and the acidity; the Merlot gives smooth softness and the Cabernet Sauvignon contributes to a lingering sense of structure and firmness. The Sangiovese is dominant and the wine is sharp and slightly bitter as a result.
