Bollinger La Grande Année 2007: an exceptional Champagne

The estate

Nicknamed “Boll” by those from Champagne or “Bolly” by the English, the timeless and legendary Bollinger Champagne House forms part of a small circle of three great Champagne houses. Bollinger Champagne’s style is defined through its remarkable precision, which is brought to every moment of production. With a respect for tradition, riddling done by hand, natural corks for magnum reserve bottles and the last permanent cooper in the region, excellence has symbolised Bollinger champagne culture since its creation in Aÿ. More than just an art, it is a heritage.

The Bollinger Champagne House stands out for its 174 hectares spread out through seven main vineyards, 85% of which are Grand and Premier Crus, allowing the house to be one of the few which produces its own grapes for its blends. The house’s signature grape variety, Pinot Noir, represents 60% of the vineyard’s total grape varieties.

The vineyard

La Grande Année 2007 is produced from exceptional terroirs in the Côte des Blancs and the Reims Mountain.

Winemaking and ageing

This iconic champagne is subject to a fermentation entirely in barrels and an ageing time that is twice as long as enforced by the appellation.

La Grande Année 2007 is made from a blend of 70% Pinot Noir (mostly from Aÿ and Verzenay) and 30% Chardonnay (Cramant and Oger), 91% from Grand Crus and 9% from Premier Crus.

The wine displays a beautiful maturity through its lovely golden colour.

Indulgent, the nose combines fragrances of roasted nuts with notes of yellow and dried citrus fruits.

Full-bodied, the palate seduces with its aromatic profile, where aromas of honey and candied lemon are elevated by a fresh finish with a delightful bitterness.

Wine Advocate-Parker :
From a bottle disgorged in March 2017, Bollinger's 2007 La Grande Année is showing brilliantly, offering up a superb bouquet of lemon oil, confit citrus, almond paste, iodine, walnut oil and freshly baked bread. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, broad-shouldered and powerful in this frequently rather slender vintage, with excellent concentration, a deep and tightly wound core and a precise, chalky finish.
