Krug Rosé is inspired by the dream of the fifth generation of the Krug family to create a unique rosé Champagne that could be recreated every year. Each Edition of Krug Rosé perpetuates this legacy.
The broad palette of elegant notes in Krug Rosé 26th Edition is born from a selection of 28 different wines, the youngest dating from 2014 and the oldest from 2005. It is enhanced by 11% Pinot Noir from that same year, traditionally macerated in red and stemming from the parcels of Aÿ and Taissy. This gives the champagne a unique structure, colour and spicy character. A seven-year ageing period in Krug’s cellars gives it its unique and sophisticated expression.
Krug Rosé 26th Edition is composed around the 2014 harvest, a year with shifting weather conditions that oscillated between cool and hot periods, marked by episodes of rain and drought. The vines grew under good conditions, which ensured a generous and high-quality harvest. The contrasting weather preserved the freshness of the fruit and the teams were able to observe a great heterogeneity throughout the region, highlighting the importance of the House's plot-by-plot approach.
Each year, in order to recreate the dream of the fifth generation of the Krug family and produce an elegant, bold and surprising rosé champagne, the House starts by identifying the plots’ wines from the current and previous years that will marry perfectly to offer a delicious palette of fruity aromas. This composition is then enhanced by a traditionally macerated red Pinot Noir, which adds structure, colour and spiciness.
Krug Rosé 26th Edition blends a selection of wines from the year's plots with reserve wines from six other years. From the house's reserve wine library, plot-based Chardonnays from the 2006 harvest bring roundness and smoothness to this Edition of Krug Rosé, while a red Pinot Noir from plots in Aÿ and Taissy plots add power to the creation. It is the 26th time that this dream has been brought to life.
In total, reserve wines from the House's extensive library represents 33% of the final blend of this edition of Krug Rosé.
This Edition of Krug Rosé comprises a blend of 45% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay and 26% Meunier.
The most non-conformist of all Krug Champagnes, Krug Rosé will lend itself to an array of bold gastronomic pairings. Combining grace, breadth and depth, it will perfectly complement many dishes and replace a fine red wine at the dinner table. It can be enjoyed with foie gras, lamb, game, white meat, venison and even spicy dishes.
