Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes of Domaine Peyre Rose Oro 2016
Tasting Notes
Appearance
A luminous colour with golden highlights, retaining a lovely vibrancy while delicately taking on amber hues over the years.
Nose
Fresh and highly expressive, it reveals a complex bouquet blending floral notes with honey and candied fruit. With aeration, subtle hints of almond, hazelnut, dried fruit and garrigue herbs emerge, underscored by a fine, well-controlled oxidation.
Palate
The attack is direct and powerful, revealing a rich, unctuous texture. This dry wine unfolds flavours of dried fruit and a lovely juiciness, all perfectly balanced by an impressive minerality. The finish is long, lively and slightly tangy, marked by a lingering almond note.
Food and Wine Pairings
This great white wine is a superb match for seafood cuisine, particularly firm-fleshed noble fish or scallops. It also pairs beautifully with refined white meats, such as roast poultry, as well as pressed-curd cheeses like Cantal.
Serving and Cellaring
To fully appreciate the Oro 2016 vintage, serving between 10 and 12°C is recommended, ideally after a vigorous one-hour decanting. Blessed with exceptional ageing potential, this wine can be enjoyed until around 2040, with its peak expected around 2034.
The Singular Expression of a Great White Wine from Domaine Peyre Rose
The Estate
Located in Saint-Pargoire in the Languedoc, Domaine Peyre Rose was officially established in 1988 by Marlène Soria, who remains its current owner and winemaker. Born from a love at first sight for a wild hamlet surrounded by garrigue, this estate has established itself as a legendary reference in the region. The domaine is distinguished by a demanding, artisanal philosophy, minimal yields and extremely long ageing periods. This singular approach is the hallmark of its wines, renowned for their immense ageing potential.
The Vineyard
The vines flourish on the heights of Saint-Pargoire, at the heart of a wild environment dominated by garrigue. This terroir, historically associated with the Coteaux du Languedoc appellation, consists of stony hillsides with clay-limestone soils, offering excellent drainage and lovely freshness. The vineyard is farmed organically, with the utmost respect for biodiversity and without any synthetic products. Yields are deliberately kept very low to ensure optimal grape concentration, and the grapes are harvested by hand.
The Vintage
2016 stands out as one of the estate's finest successes. The climatic conditions produced a harvest of exceptional quality, giving rise to juices with a rare balance between aromatic richness and mineral tension.
Winemaking and Ageing
After direct pressing of the grapes, the Oro 2016 undergoes an extraordinary maturation process. The wine is aged for nearly a decade in tank and in large oak casks. This long rest is then followed by extended ageing in bottle in the estate's cellars. This extreme patience allows for complex aromatic development before a very late release.
